Rang 1- Reopening arrangements for September 2020

Dear parent,

                     I hope that you and your family are keeping well in these unprecedented times. I wish that you and your family have a lovely summer holiday and thank you all for your co-operation during this time.

At this point, I want to provide families of Rang 1 children with guidance of my forward planning for re-opening in September. My aim in this letter is to give you enough information so that you can prepare your child for Gaelscoil in September.

Provisional Information Evening Date: Wednesday 26^th August at 7p.m. in the Gaelscoil (Please keep this evening free: one parent only.)

Reopening School Guidance and ‘New School Day’ at Gaelscoil na Speiríní.

I am planning for all the children to return to school full time with a phased settling in period in the new academic year with social distancing, where practical, while implementing a ‘protective bubble’ strategy. This position will remain fluid throughout the Summer and will be informed by PHA and DE guidelines. I urge that you log on to the school website to check for updates on what the school day will look like for your children over the summer holidays.

Start dates for your child.

Primary 1 children will begin school on Thursday 3^rd September and return again on Friday 4^th September. They will return on Wednesday 9^th, Thursday 10^th Sept and Friday 11^th September. Primary 1 children will return to school on Monday 14^th September for the full week. As is usual practice, your child will go home every day at 12p.m during the month of September and until Friday the 2nd Oct.

Phased settling in Period & guide for Re-opening School Timetable:   I have included a Guide for Re-opening for all parents. There is an initial Settling in time to allow for all children, staff and parents to become practised in the ‘New School Day.’

During the first two weeks one parent can bring the child to the bottom of the school ramp at the Rang 1 classroom leaving your child safely with the class teacher and vacate through the back gate.

Drop off and collection arrangements: There are two drop off times 8.45a.m. and.9a.m   Children will be grouped according to families. Please see your drop off time attached. You will collect your child from the back gates at 12p.m. during the month of September.

Requirements for School: Your child will only need a lunchbox to school. It is not required that they take their school bag to school. They will have a designated seat within the classroom.   They will eat lunch/dinner at their designated seat also.

Free-school Meals and Travel Allowance: Please get in touch with EANI to apply.

Personal Hygiene Requisitions: A significant quantity of toilet roll, hand towels, tissues, liquid soap and hand sanitiser have been purchased to ensure a plentiful supply. There will be hand-washing and sanitising stations set up in each room and frequent handwashing will be part of the return to school regime.

Temperature Checks: Pupils will have their temperature checked periodically throughout the school day using a handheld digital infrared thermometer. If your child is displaying a high temperature you will be asked to collect them immediately.  

Sickness: If your child is sick please do not send them to school. If your child becomes sick you will be asked to collect them immediately.

School Uniform: In order to minimise the risk of spread within school it is recommended that uniform is changed regularly, preferably daily.   Therefore, we ask that you alternate between your child’s school jumper and another green jumper. Please do not purchase multiple school jumpers as plain green jumpers will be acceptable until further notice.
